We started off the day by driving down to the San Diego Zoo. Hope got the chance to see almost all of the animals. She missed the most of the bears and lions because she was napping. Also, we skipped the giant turtles because they hardly move anyway.
The highlights were the pandas, polar bears, giraffes, flamingos, hippos, elephants, and all of the animals in the petting zoo area. Toward the end of the day, we decided on a stuffed animal (a tiger, I think) - it was similar to a Build-a-Bear (picture on right).
After leaving the zoo (picture on the left), we went to our favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego - Filippi's Pizza Grotto. They have excellent lasagna there! We headed home after that. Hope got to have her first birthday cake and we found out that she is probably allergic to something in the frosting because her eye puffed up quite a bit.
We started opening presents that evening. Hope was getting cranky and being uncooperative so we ended up finishing opening presents the next morning - that worked much better!
Hope has enjoyed her new presents. She seems particularly fond of her school bus (for riding and pushing) and her rocking giraffe.
